Rusty
Rusty

Rusty was rescued from a home where he was tied to a dog house in extremely cold conditions because the family worked long hours. The family had found him months earlier at a local fast food restaurant running loose in the parking lot on a rainy night, darting in and out between cars and almost getting hit. The family surrendered Rusty to Tails of Hope and he was picked up one cold and windy afternoon, the same day that the weather forcast was calling for 8-12 inches of snow that night. At the time Tails of Hope picked up Rusty, he had somehow wiggled out of his dog sweater and had infected eyes from irritation from the straw that lined his dog house. He was taken into a foster home where he got the proper vet care that he was in desperate need of and fortunately found his way into the warm and loving forever home of Angela, who spoils him rotten. At this point, we still don't know who is luckier, Angela or Rusty, so we will call it an even tie.

Edgar
Edgar

This little, tiny guy is Edgar. One of our volunteers found him searching for food on a McDonald’s parking lot in the 100 degree heat. He only weighs 2 lbs. He is about 10 years old. He has some dental issues and some skin issues. Edgar is now living in Newport News Virginia with his forever family of Shiloh, Yoda, Spike the cat and Sherry and Leigh Ann. He has settled in well and is gaining weight and growing hair. The vet says he is in great shape. He had a rough patch when he was first found behind the dumpster of McDonald's in Maryland, but after some TLC, he has turned out healthy and happy!

Cactus Jack
Cactus Jack

CACTUS JACK spent a long time in foster care waiting for the right home to come along. His foster mom, Jen, and the rest of his family loved Jack dearly...so...they decided it was time to make this lovable guy a permanent member of the family. We are so happy for Jack and hope that he has many great years ahead of him. Thank you, Jen!!!

J.D.
J.D.

J.D. came to Tails of Hope in December of 2004 as a stray from a local shelter. This dear Shepherd mix tried his very best, but we just couldn't seem to find the right home for him. July 4th, 2005, J.D. went to live with Tails of Hope volunteers Rena and Ralph and found his forever home. He is quite comfortable now living in a multi-dog household and has lots of "brothers" and "sisters" to play with. We are very happy for J.D....and we know that he is thrilled with his family. Congratulations J.D. - and happy 1st Anniversary!!!

Rhett
Rhett

Rhett came to Tails of Hope from a local shelter, where he had been taken after being hit by a car. His injuries were well over a week old by the time we were called to pick him up. Rhett's back leg did not look good and we had surgery on it immediately. Throughout the course of the next several months, poor Rhett was in danger of losing the leg. When we finally got him stabilized, a wonderful family came forward and applied to adopt this great boy.

Rhett lived with his family for over 4 years until he passed away in February of 2006. Rhett will live on in our hearts forever. In his honor, Tails of Hope started "Rhett's Fund", which will provide for all of our animals in need of serious medical treatments. We are grateful to have shared in Rhett's short life - he taught us a lot during his brief time with us!
