Maltese (short coat) : : Female (spayed) : : Adult : : Small
Spring has sprung and April has arrived! April is a tiny Maltese, abandoned at the shelter at the age of 9, a neglected and scared matted mess. We knew there was a little diamond in the rough hovered in the cage, shaking and crying out for help. It was necessary to shave her down due to the heavy matting, but it won’t take long for the lovely white coat to grow back! She’s a peppy little girl who just loves to follow you around and be held in your lap.
She deserves a brand new start in a loving home! April was very shy at first in foster care, but within a few days, working with patient and letting her approach on her own terms, she is regaining her courage and has made great progress! She now greets you with a tail wag and a wiggle!
Due to her small statue, April will only be placed in a home with older teenagers. Small children and larger dogs can seem threatening to such a fragile little dog like April and she could get hurt by rough play or active young children. All April needs is a kind soul that she would follow around, lay in their lap, and be the center of her world! Can you give her that chance and watch her “bloom” with affection and gratitude?
Please only serious inquiries and applications. Apply after first reading our requirements on our “Adopt an Animal” link on our home page.

April also does well with non-reactive calm dogs, all sizes, although she seems to have been able to handle my own young dog's exuberant personality with time and patience. (see photo below). She also was raised with cats in the home, although there is none in the foster home. She can be very playful once she feels comfortable in her surroundings.
