Baby is a friendly and playful boy, with a typical Golden personality. Life, thus far, has not been kind to him. He is a healthy and "happy-to-be-alive" puppy, looking for a kind, wonderful, loving home. He has such a great spirit, despite the unkindness the world has shown him in his young life. Baby came to us not using his front leg and in pain. We took him to an orthopedic surgeon where we found he had a displaced kneecap. This has been operated on and he's all fixed... he has a slight limp but he will be fine. Update from Foster: Baby is doing well. He still has little range of motion in the front leg. He uses it more like an arm. He'll tap you with it, hit the other dogs, etc. He occasionally uses it while he is standing but not on steps and not to get into or out of a down position. He does get around though and has no problem playing with the other dogs. In fact, that is where his bum leg is used as a weapon! He has been to therapy, and while he was not happy about going, it did help him. He is fine with my sister's dogs who are large, male and female, @ her house but sometimes he gets afraid of other dogs. like at the vets', so it is just something to watch with him. He also does ok with small children but I still would not place him with them since his mobility is limited and he could easily knock them down. We took him and one of our other dogs to our boat for a ride but there wasn't enough water to leave the slip. He did very well there and immediately managed to find a ball to play with by himself. I thought that was kind of brave of him! NEWEST FOSTER UPDATE; He needs someone who understands that he is young and a special needs dog. He LOVES my 3 dogs and will definitely need to go with a fairly confident dog buddy but I have special needs dogs and he does very well with them. He will try and may succeed to be a dominant dog. It just is kind of a toss up at my house. He will rely on another dog for some things and will provide leadership for others. He gets along GREAT with other dogs. Small children running by repeatedly make him nervous and reactive. If I didn't already have 3 dogs I would keep Baby, that's how great we think he is. He is young and wonderful and has so much love to give. Please just know that he may need surgery on his kneecap at some point of his life and anyone who adopts him needs to give him supplements for his joints and may have to provide surgery for his back leg later in his life. NOTE: We will not adopt Baby into a family with children under 15, as children make him nervous.
